I think that some people feel obliged to read the news, and that they don’t need to. Reading the news (for perhaps hours per week) might feel virtuous or necessary, but mostly I think it is neither. Yep. I stopped following the news in 2008 and increased my time reading books. Now I focus on reading Substack.
I am happier for it, have zero regrets and did not miss anything important.
Every time my wife starts a sentence with “Did you hear the news that…”, I reply “No.”
